Inside, inside this deep hole together Nobody else can see us share our hopes and dreams In this world or in that world, theres nowhere we can be In this world or in that world, there’s nowhere we can be Ah, dear God in Heaven, calling on the god of children Covered us from head to toe in bruises from the time you entertained yourself In the tiny sandbox where you play

Back with some more Call of Cthulhu art, this time of another investigator of mine; Sibyl Matthews.
After her parents' death Sibyl was adopted by her uncle, the pastor of Arkham's protestant church. Under his care and guidance, she grew into a sweet young lady and a devoted Christian, able to persuade even the most skeptical of people to at least attend a sermon.
Through faith, all things are possible... Right?
- Pose was provided by Figurosity
(Follow @arkham-outskirts to eventually read more about her)
#just to quickly note- her adoptive dad is actually a really cool guy#I honestly get the vibe that Sibyl is more religious than he is#and a lot of that comes down to the fact that she's very naive and was raised on a far more accepting flavor of Christianity than most#so she's in for a bit of a rude awakening and that's not even touching on the fact that she's in the Cthulhu mythos#Call of Cthulhu#Call of Cthulhu ttrpg#CoC#Arkham Outskirts#Investigator#OC#Sibyl Matthews#Sibyl Bierce#The King in Yellow#tw: christianity#tw: religious themes#tw: scopophobia#my art#my post

You know I wrote out that whole crossover/intersection between the mummy and Indiana Jones once but it just occurred to me there’s another property that would also fit in.
Downton Abbey.
Because as we all know Highclere Castle, the stunning home that serves as Downton in the show is/was owned by descendants of Lord Carnarvon, who, in addition to being one of the primary financiers of Howard Carter’s expedition into Egypt whence the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, was also one of the primary inspirations for Evy and Jonathan Carnahan’s father (and in fact in earlier drafts of the script to the Mummy, their surname was Carnarvon).
So like, imagine it. Jonathan’s quite some years older than Evy, old enough that he’d have been Of Age in 1912 when the Titanic sank, and he’s been off in Egypt with his father and stepmother and baby sister but his father’s recently died, and then gets the letter from a distant cousin, a Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, that he’s now the heir to the estate.
And besides I think Evy and Sybil would get along splendidly
#George Herbert fifth Earl of Carnarvon actually had a daughter named Evelyn#maybe Jonathan’s presumed dead for a while during the war#and it happens that Matthew was wounded and as an officer is sent to convalesce at downton#and meets mary#evy though a few years younger than sibyl is her absolute ally with regards to Tom#and sibyl and Tom are her staunch advocates when she brings back an American wastrel from the desert#whilst cousin Robert has an ulcer about more Americans — and this one irish at that — coming into the family#in this au also sibyl and Matthew both live if that wasn’t clear#I think ive spelled sibyl inside out everywhere in this post#oh well#Downton abbey#the mummy

Dies Irae
I am so sorry but i did a deep dive on the Dies Irae because of the last malevolent episode and now its gonna be all of you's problem.
one of the oldest and most frequently borrowed of all melodies is the ecclesiastical plainsong to the sequence 'Dies Irae', because of the theme's intrinsic merit, but also its liturgical associations. No record of its origin remains, but both words and melody appear to have been suggested by a passage from the Respond ' Libera me, Domine', which follows the Requiem Mass (catholic mass for the dead) on solemn occasion.
SOURCE: Gregory, R. (1953). “Dies Irae.” http://www.jstor.org/stable/730837
the Requiem Mass contained several special components; the Dies Irae was one of these, formally added to the Mass in 1570. Its text was penned by Thomas of Celano during the late 11th or early 12th century, and it offers a graphic depiction of the horrors of Judgment Day for sinners. the New Catholic Encyclopedia states that
"The medieval Sequence stresses fear of judgment and condemnation."
SOURCE: Brooks, E. (2003). "The Dies Irae ("Day of Wrath") and Totentanz ("Dance of Death"): Medieval Themes Revisited in 19th Century Music and Culture." https://scholarworks.uark.edu/inquiry/vol4/iss1/5
Centre panel from Memling's tryptich Last Judgment (c. 1467–1471)
the text contains three basic references:
(1) Zephaniah 1:15,16
That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities, and against the high battlements.
(2) II Peter 3:10-12
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing that these things are thus all to be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy living and godliness, looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
(3) finally, the judgment portion of Matthew 25 is cited as part of the scriptural basis for the "Dies Irae."
THE TEXT, in an english translation from the original latin
Day of wrath and doom impending, David's word with Sibyl blending! Heaven and earth in ashes ending!
O, what fear man's bosom rendeth, When from heaven the Judge descendeth. On whose sentence all dependeth!
Wondrous sound the trumpet flingeth, Through earth's sepulchers it ringeth. All before the throne it bringeth.
Death is struck, and nature quaking, All creation is awaking. To its Judge an answer making.
Lo! the book exactly worded. Wherein all hath been recorded; Thence shall judgment be awarded.
When the Judge His seat attaineth, And each hidden deed arraigneth. Nothing unavenged remaineth.
What shall I, frail man, be pleading ? Who for me be interceding. When the just are mercy needing?
King of majesty tremendous, Who dost free salvation send us. Fount of pity, then befriend us!
Think, kind Jesus! my salvation Caused Thy wondrous Incarnation; Leave me not to reprobation.
Faint and weary Thou hast sought me. On the Cross of suffering bought me; Shall such grace be vainly brought me ?
Righteous Judge! for sin's pollution Grant Thy gift of absolution. Ere that day of retribution.
Guilty, now I pour my moaning. All my shame with anguish owning; Spare, O God, Thy suppliant groaning!
Through the sinful woman shriven. Through the dying thief forgiven. Thou to me a hope has given.
Worthless are my prayers and sighing. Yet, good Lord, in grace complying, Rescue me from fires undying.
With Thy favored sheep O place me, Nor among the goats abase me. But to Thy right hand upraise me.
While the wicked are confounded. Doomed to flames of woe unbounded. Call me with Thy Saints surrounded.
Low I kneel, with heart submission. Crushed to ashes in contrition; Help me in my last condition!
Ah! that day of tears and mourning! From the dust of earth returning, Man for judgment must prepare him;
Spare, O God, in mercy spare him! Lord all-pitying, Jesu Blest, Grant them Thine eternal rest.
the first six stanzas describe the Judgment. the other stanzas are lyric in character, expressing anguish of one of the multitude there present in spirit; his pleading before the Judge who, while on earth, sought him unceasingly over the hard and thorny ways from Bethlehem to Calvary; and now, in anticipation of the Judgment, pleads before a Savior of infinite mercy, who, on Judgment Day, will be a Judge of infinite justice, before whom scarcely the just will be secure.

Master List
Dream was concerned. Lily had yet to come greet him that morning. Lately, even if she had plans or if he was busy, she'd come to wish him a good day shortly after getting up. But it was late afternoon and Sibyl was no where to be seen. She had also turned in early the night before. Dream saught her out, wanting to assure she was safe.
Lily had yet to leave bed, however she was not asleep. She layed there stiffly, eyes squeezes shut, face scrunched into a scowl. "Are you unwell?" he softly ask. Clearly it was so, but he learned Sibyl was a bit unpredictable, so it's best to clarify.
"It's nothing new," she said softly, as if talking any louder would cause more pain. "Could you do me a favor and get rid of the light. I have a splitting headache."
It took Dream only a moment to close the blind, and for the ceiling to become something that didn't mimic the sky. What light there was was just the sunshine slipping through the gaps of the curtains.
Morpheus approached Sibyl, crouching down next to the bed to see her face. Her eyes had opened and was staring at him, though it didn't appear she was focusing her gaze on anything. "Is there anything else you wish for me to do?" he asked brushing stray hairs out of her face.
It appeared Sibyl was going to shale her head, but knew it better not to just moments before. "No," she answered simply. Lily hadn't moved a muscle since Dream arrived. She stayed in her stiff curled up position.
But her hands, tucked close to her chest were moving. Her fingers were slowly curling in only to slowly curl out. It a a methodical movement, matching her breath. This was something she was practiced in.
"May I ask what is ailing you?" Dream wondered. Healing was not one of his capabilities, but he was able to provide assistance in any way he could.
Her eyes slid closed once again. "Magic has a price, and this is mine to pay," she explained.
Dream thought back to the conversation he had last evening with Matthew. He had asked her to show him some magic. Other denizens of the Dreaming saw as well, and wanted to see more. Lily had spent most of the afternoon preforming magic. It was his people who cause her current condition, he would help how he could. "And what price might that be?" He needed to know what was wrong to be able to help.
"Pain," Sibyl said in a groan. "Pain and tightness in my joints and muscles, making it hard to move. It's never been this bad before."
If Dream had breath it would have been caught. He knew for human magic had a cost, but never knew how big a cost it would be. The witches get their magic from their connection to the nature around them. The nature of the dreaming was very different to the nature of the waking world. Surely preforming magic here would take a larger toll on the one preforming it. Had Dream realized this earlier he would have forbid her from doing Witchcraft. From letting herself get in such a state.
Morpheus slipped his hand into Sibyl's holding her fingers open. "Is the price always this steep?" he asked softly.
"It's the price I chose," the witch confessed, "My grandma lost her hearing and my aunt could no longer walk. I didn't care how hard anything got, as long as I didn't loose anything."
She was a stubborn human. "You chose to continue to pay a price you could have payed once?" Dream pointed out, almost scolded.
Lily let out a soft and painful laugh. "Hey, everyone going for subscription plans these days. I was just ahead of the trend." She curled her fingers into his, grasping at his hand.
Morpheus was amazed by the fragile hand curled around his own. "What can I do to help?" He kept his voice soft.
"I got it," Lily assured him, "I just have to stretch, it's just hard to start."
He let out a sigh in disappointment. "There is no harm in asking me for help," Dream reminded her, "There is nothing I shall ever hold over you."
Dream moved slowly and with gentle intentions. His one hand stayed curled with her's. His other slipped under her elbow, slightly prompting it up. "Stop me if it hurts," he told her, while slowly starting to bend her arm as her elbow.
Lily scrunched up her face and pressed her lips together. Though she showed no other signs of pain.
Dream held her arm at ninety degrees for a moment before slowly moving it back down. With the blanket now shifted off her arms he could see that she wore short sleeves, something she had yet to do around him. Dream saw all the tattoos that covered her arms, from quotes to little doodles she might come to regret. But what caught his attention the most was is own name, Dream of The Endless, Lily's soulmark.
Dream had almost forgotten the fact on that was what brought them together. He had come to enjoy and crave Lily's company. It felt like he had her around cause he wanted her there, not for the fact they were fated partners.
But it was still love. Something he has never had any luck in. Dream didn't want to loose Lily, and would do anything to assure he wouldn't.
Sibyl's finger grew tighter around his fingers. It was not a tight grip due to the weakness in her fingers, but it was stronger than before. Dream was reminded of what he was doing.
"I don't remember the last time I had someone do this," she confessed. "The last time someone helped. I always needed to deal with it on my own."
--------------
Just cause Sibyl could move did not mean she wanted to. She made herself shuffle about the room, stretching as she went. After enough movement she retrieved her jacket from where she ladt discarded it. She then flopped down onto the couch prepared not to move from that spot for a while. She started digging into her deep pockets. Why have a purse when you have pockets?
In the left pocket was her keys, spare headphones, a broken phone charger, an empty pack of gum, a receipt from grocery shopping from five months ago, as well as a pile of loose change.
"What are you looking for?" Morpheus asked upon seeing the pile of object taken from her jacket. He sat down a cup of tea I front of Sibyl.
"I keep a bottle of pain meds in here somewhere," she told him. Her right pocket held a half off coupon for canvases that expired the week before, a thin wallet for her cards and a few pound notes, a pack of tissues, a single pad, and a mini note book that was both torn and water stained rendering it practically useless.
Morpheus sat down on the other end of the couch. "I could have brought them to you," he pointed out.
Sibyl shook her head going to the pockets in the lining of her jacket. "I have a rule that I need to get the meds myself otherwise I'll take them and not move and get stuck in a visiohs cycle of doing nothing," she explained, pulling at the last few items. First was a small amulet to ward of curses, an amithyst, a few pressed flowers, the knife she had drawn at Morpheus at their first meeting, and, finally, a small white bottle with a fading label.
Sibyl was quick to take a pill, washing it down with the warm cup of tea.. She leaned back into the couch, letting the beverage's heat soak into her hands.
"How is your hand?" Morpheus asked. Lily noticed his attention was stuck in her knife. The same knife she used to cut herself to make the circle for the teleportation magic.
Lily looked down at the cup of tea surrounded by her hand. "Oh, it's fine," she shrugged, "I tend to heal pretty quickly for stuff like that.*
"If I may ask," he started, reaching for the lengthy dagger. "Why do carry around such a thing?" Morpheus pulled the blade from its leather cover.
Sibyl let out a soft groan. "Well it was a gift from a friend. It was her way of showing she cares. I'd tend to get myself into precarious situations, and she was familiar with my hesitence to preform magic, so she wanted me to have any other way out. One side is silver and the other side is iron, so it can hurt pretty much anything."
Dream returned the knife to where it once was. He had hoped it was just for a precaution, for worries and not because of things that had already happens. It wasn't so. It was nessicary for her. She needed another way to protect herself. Lily was human, who die so easily, where her magic causes her pain. He should always be there to protect her.

i would like to know. your downton abbey thoughts.
oh em gee i have so many thoughts
for anyone who has not seen the downton abbey series, there will be spoilers!! watch ouT!!!
where to start?? i just really adored this show and how organic the storytelling was. i have yet to see either of the films, though they are on my list. i'm just gonna start spouting out random stuff and hope it's coherent lol
My ranking for the sisters: Sibyl, Mary, Edith (tho i did like her little journalism plot, overall can't stand edith. she reminds me of my oldest brother LMAO)
favorite ships: i loved matthew crawley very very much, loved him with mary. i always thought the relationship between lady and lord grantham was very sweet. i was very moved when carson and mrs hughes got married. i think mr and mrs bates were such a good pairing. i remember watching the first season and thinking sibyl and the handmaid she helped get a job had tension lmao (not really a ship, but worth mentioning)
favorite chracters: VIOLE, TOM, george and sibbie, isis, mrs hughes, cora (my mom actually named our dog cora bc of lady grantham lol), mary, matthew, anna
one moment of the show that always comes back to me is when george and sibbie reunite. i love the little hug they have, it's just so sweet. i'm a sucker for little kids in general, they're just so pure
i cried at several different points during this show. matthew's death hit me hard. isis's death also hit me pretty hard. i loved all the different weddings we got to see, those were also moving. i remember crying when Carson was sick and mary was visiting him and he was talking about how she's a good person at the end of the day and just how perfectly that moment summed up their whole relationship
i think violet crawley may be one of the greatest characters of all time. she was so witty and perfectly written and performed. big fan of maggie smith!!
this show was able to pull in a lot of different story plots and highlight tons of different people without ever feeling convoluted or rushed or fumbled, it was so well done. overall it's one of my favorites!!
this is so all over the place and none of this makes any sense </3 but i hope you like this lol
thank you for asking me about my downton thoughts rj, please talk to me any time you need to talk about downton abbey!!!
#asks#downton abbey#maddie rambles like there is no tomorrow#genuinely good luck figuring out what the hell i just wrote because this makes no sense to my sleepy brain tbh#so happy to have a downton mutual :)

Jigsaw falling into place So there is nothing to explain You eye each other as you pass She looks back, you look back Not just once Not just twice
------------------------------------------------------
Back with another redraw of a photo from pinterest!
Now, I've had a few recurring faces show up on my posts, and I'm sure some of y'all are thinking "Hold on, I don't recognize her. Who's that?"
This is Sibyl Bierce, yet another pc I have made for this game. She is a pastor's adopted daughter and member of the church. A very kind, if somewhat oblivious, girl. But why would I make an account for her? What am I hoping to do that I can't do as either Emery or Fae?
I want to seek Mr. Eaten's name.
Now granted, that's going to take awhile. Someone else has discussed it better than me, but this game doesn't just let you make a throwaway character for this. You're going to have to build them up and get attached one way or another. I'll probably even do that thing where you back out at the very last minute. Though I won't lie, if taking that final step is what it takes to actually learn the damn name I could be tempted...
Regardless, this piece could honestly be considered more concept art than any literal depiction of events. For example, it's going to take awhile before Sibyl looks like this. Next time I draw her you'll probably see a more well-dressed, less-bandaged and happier version of her. So either way don't be surprised if as her story continues, some elements of this design either change or simply don't come to be.
One thing I'll say now is that she's bandaged up like this because I imagine after all of the beatings and deaths this story puts you through, she slowly starts to become a tomb colonist. At least in practice if not officially. I mean they say the people of Fallen London become tomb colonists when they're either too old or too injured, and Sibyl will certainly fit the latter. Oh and do you want to know the kicker to all of this?
Sibyl is only 19 years old.

(Also- one thing you'll notice if you go lurking is that I also use Sibyl for the ttrpg Call of Cthulhu. That version is Sibyl Matthews. This one is Sibyl Bierce. Same character, different surnames.)
#also I'll go ahead and say now Sibyl will probably be my last account for the game lmao#the other two ambitions I'm not doing look interesting but I guess just not my personal tastes#also I just don't want to make another email lol#Fallen London#Fallen London OC#Sibyl Bierce#Seeking Mr Eaten's Name#SMEN#Tomb Colonist#my art#my post

so i finished season one of downton abbey at my mother’s request and it’s very good but honestly the drama and characters in this show have made me angrier than anything in game of thrones.
i’ve never disliked a main character more tbh… like mary is fucking awful! at least w the people i hate in game of thrones i know they’ll get what’s coming to them eventually but i know she won’t
#i’m not sad matthew broke up w her!! they didn’t have chemistry and she was so rude and cold w him!! why did he even like her??#stop playing sad violins producers!! i’m finally happy!#i sound so vindictive… but this entire season i’ve felt bad for her once but other than that? no. the second she was a bitch to her sister#for grieving the death of someone she loved but couldn’t have she was on my shitlist and she hasn’t left#also her whole inheritance issue is stupid. why should i care she can’t inherit the estate? she’s never seen to really care for it.#and what would she do w it? just sit in her manor all day? she doesn’t have any ambition so far. sibyl is a progressive and actively helps#edith looks for love and wants a husband but gets shoved aside by everyone for mary… but mary herself has no goals other than complaining#about the issue apparently. like girl if u want the estate so badly find a lawyer or look into the law urself. ur granny did.#why must everyone else fight for u? u don’t do anything all day 😭#and if she loved matthew regardless of his money she wouldn’t drag her feet in the marriage…#ugh ANYWAY i have opinions on this woman clearly

Downton AU Snippet #1
Set in the opening scene of 3.05, Richard’s been Matthew’s valet since abt 3.03
Returning to his dressing room after his sister-in-law’s false labor pains, Matthew Crawley felt a twinge of guilt at seeing his valet still awake.
“It’s nearly two in the morning, Richard. Have we kept all the servants from their rest this evening?” Matthew asked, trying to keep his tone light but unable to hide his genuine concern for the staff’s welfare.
“It was no trouble at all, sir,” Richard responded, conveniently not answering Matthew’s question, “Is everything all right with Lady Sybil?”
“Clarkson says everything is as it should be, and given that I have no experience on the topic, I am going to trust his judgement.”
“In your defense, sir, most men our age have no experience in this particular field.”
“You can say that again. I’m nearing my twenty-eighth year on Earth and I’ve never been around a pregnant woman!”
“A natural consequence of being your mother’s only child, sir. And you should count yourself lucky. When I was younger, I overheard the rather unpleasant experience of a friend of my sister. Believe me when I tell you it’s all I needed to know about the subject.”
“Oh? What happened to her?”
“Her parents were so concerned about her that they shelled out thousands for a huge London doctor to come and treat her. I think he even had a practice on Harley Street. It was all the neighborhood could talk about for weeks. But, during the birth, I guess he missed the symptoms of some disease or other, and she died.” Richard explained, forcing away the growing feeling that he had said too much.
“That’s horrible,” Matthew said, attempting to console his friend, “did you know her well?”
“Not very, though she had been very close with my sister,” Richard said.
“Still, quite tragic, especially for a young woman. Do you remember who the doctor was?” Matthew asked, not knowing what had prompted this sudden curiosity about such a small detail of Richard’s story, but nearly being swallowed by the feeling that it was of paramount importance that he know.
“I could never forget it,” Richard said with a chuckle, “The village was so furious with him, I thought they’d form a mob and storm his practice with pitchforks. It was a Dr. Tapsell.”
Matthew’s blood ran cold, and suddenly he could hear his heart beat speed up.
“Good God,” he breathed, “you don’t mean Phillip Tapsell, do you?” he asked, praying he was wrong in his assumption.
“Yes, sir, it was him. What’s wrong?” Richard questioned when he saw the horrified look on Matthew’s face.
“That’s the doctor Robert has hired for Sybil. I have to tell him right away!”
“I shouldn’t have mentioned it,” Richard said quickly, trying to take back his words, “I wouldn’t want to cause His Lordship any undue stress before his first grandchild’s birth. I’m sure he’s a fine doctor who just made a mistake.”
“Trust me, Richard, if something happens to Sybil, and Cora, my wife, or, god forbid, the Dowager, finds out I knew this information and withheld it, then my war injury will no longer be the most painful thing that’s ever happened to me. I have to tell Robert as soon as I can.”
“If you think it would help, sir.”
“I do, immensely. And I owe you a debt of gratitude for the warning, God only knows what might have happened otherwise. Goodnight.” Matthew said, retreating to his bedroom.

“You were in your dressing room so long, I was beginning to worry.” Mary said when her husband finally appeared in their bedchamber.
“So sorry, darling, but I promise it was for good reason. I was having the most enlightening chat with Richard.”
“I’m glad to see you and your new valet get on so well. Molesley was nice, but I sometimes wondered if he’d ever interacted with another human before.”
Nodding in agreement at his wife’s comment, Matthew began to recount Richard’s story for her.
When he’d finished, she looked nearly as panicked as he had when he’d heard it.
“And this is the doctor Papa has hired to treat Sibyl?” Mary nearly screamed.
When Matthew shook his head “yes”, she took it as permission to continue spiraling into fear for her sister.
“We have to tell him, and the earliest possible opprotunity!”
Putting his hand through his wife’s hair in a calming gesture, Matthew tried to soothe her worries while panicking himself.
“Darling, I couldn’t agree more. We’ll find Robert tomorrow morning, as soon as he wakes up. Don’t worry, I’m certain the second he hears what Richard told me, he won’t let Tapsell near Sybil. I’m certain Clarkson won’t mind stepping in at the last minute.”
Her worries not quite gone, but recognizing there was nothing she could do until morning, Mary fell into a restless sleep.
————————————-
Meanwhile, in the servants hall, Richard was replaying his conversation with Matthew in his head when His Lordship’s valet walked in.
“Mr. Barrow,” Richard greeted the man whom he’d taken to calling “Thomas” in his head. Her Ladyship’s maid had pulled him aside his first week on the job, and told him that, as one of the longest serving staff members, getting into Thomas’ good graces would help him advance at the Abbey. Richard hadn’t needed to be told twice, and he was glad that he’d taken her advice. Thomas was now his closest friend at Downton (and if he spent a good chunk of time gauging if more than that was possible, that was his own business).
“Mr. Ellis,” Thomas greeted in return, “how are you?”
“I might have just gotten myself in a bit of trouble with His Lordship.”
“You? What could you have said to get yourself into trouble?”
“I was chatting with Mr. Crawley earlier, and I ended up telling him about a friend of my sister’s, who passed in childbirth. It turned out the doctor who failed her is the same one His Lordship hired to treat Lady Sibyl.”
When Thomas burst out laughing, Richard’s concerned expression turned confused.
“What is amusing about that?”
“I’m sorry,” Thomas said, catching his breath, “It’s just that, His Lordship forgave me for literally stealing from him numerous times, is currently fighting to overturn his valet’s conviction for murder, and his wife has a maid who would be more at home as one of Notre Dame’s gargoyles. I truly doubt that his son-in-law’s valet warning him about a potential threat to the life of his beloved youngest daughter is gonna be the straw that breaks his back.”
Realizing from Thomas’ words that he was being a tad ridiculous, Richard sighed.
“I just didn’t want him to stress out unnecessarily”
“I promise, when Mr. Crawley tells him your story, he’ll be grateful to you.”
————————————
The following morning, both Matthew and Thomas’ predictions from the previous night came true.
Mary and Matthew had corned Robert the second they saw him, and told him everything. Robert cursed, made them promise not to tell his mother, and cancelled Sir Phillip’s services immediately, and asked Cora to telephone Clarkson, which she happily did.
And, that afternoon, Richard jumped to his feet when the Earl of Grantham himself appeared in the servants hall.
“Your Lordship,” he greeted.
“Ellis, I wanted to come down and personally offer my thanks. Your conversation with Matthew yesterday evening may have saved my daughter a traumatic experience, and I am very grateful.”
“Thank you, Your Lordship. I’m glad I was able to help.”
